It started as a hobby and became an
obsession.
Chuck had always appreciated fine
art and became passionate about it when he started painting.
n 2001
Chuck's
painting "Levatation", was selected as one of the top 100 paintings in
the Arts for the Parks art competition. There were 2118 entries. He
is proud to be represented in this prestigious art event.
Chuck has studied with a number of nationally
known artists, including: Scott Christensen, Skip Whitcomb, Tony
Eubanks, Martin Grelle, Bruce Greene, George Hallmark, Kevin MacPherson, and Matt Smith. These artists emphasized the importance
of painting from direct observation. There is no substitute for
painting landscapes on location. As a charter member of the Outdoor
Painters Society, Chuck has become passionate about plein-aire
painting. That passion led him to devote full time to an oil
painting career.
For the past three years, Chuck has been traveling
and camping extensively throughout the West in search of exceptional
scenery to paint. With a mobile studio, the vast majority of
Chucks painting is done on location. Chuck loves to paint
the drama of the mountains, the tranquility of placid waters,
and the subtle beauty of the desert. Observation of the play
of light and how it changes throughout the day makes painting outdoors exciting
and challenging. And the satisfaction of capturing the effect
of light on the landscape is beyond description for him.
Studying the art of old masters helps Chuck
understand fine art and its components. A list of his favorite
artists would include Thomas Moran, Frederick Church, Thomas
Hill, Albert Bierstat, Edgar Payne, and Carl Rungius.
Chuck Rawle is a charter member of Outdoor
Painters Society, a member of Association of Creative Artists
and Oil Painters of America, as well as a former board member
of Plano Art Association. His award winning art has been exhibited at
numerous shows around the country.
