Born in Beaumont, Texas and raised on the Gulf
Coast, the artist was exposed from an early age to the beauties of
southeast Texas and the Texas coast. His love of nature and its
inhabitants were the inspiration for his early work in the 1970’s. He
attended Lamar University and then obtained his B.F.A. from the
University of Houston’s Fine Art Department. His painting career
stopped when he entered the wine industry and upon retiring from
Beringer Vineyards in 1997, he committed to pursue his lifelong desire
to paint and produce art. Mr. Faggard has since earned his Master of
Visual Arts degree from Lamar University and lives in the Texas Hill
Country.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Mr.
Faggard has raised cattle and wildlife, both native and exotic, for most
of his life. His love and understanding of the subjects that he portrays
is evident in each painting. Truth in anatomy, environment, and habitat
are abundant throughout the artistic representation on his work. Although
realism is represented in each piece, the artist chooses to use elements
of color, form, composition, and brushwork to emphasize the overall
importance of the subject matter in each piece.
Recent exhibitions of Mr. Faggard’s
work have been held in one-man shows at both the Dishman Museum and the
Art Museum of Southeast Texas, Elaines Table in Hunt, Texas, El Sol Art
and Sonora Art. Various chapters of Ducks Unlimited, Safari Club
International, and the Coast Conservation Association have all exhibited
Mr. Faggard’s work in the past.
Collectors are also excited about the
release of his first limited edition print “Party of 1”: his pen and
ink drawing of a Zebra foal and its mother. Along with current commissions
and portraits, future work this year will include “Texas Critters”, a
series of 12 paintings on wildlife from Texas, Gulf Coast waterfowl, and
various bird species.
