A
descent of some of the first settlers of Texas, Al was born and has
lived in the central Texas area most of his life. His home and
studio are located about three mile east of Belton, Texas
Al
received a degree in Commercial Art from Texas Tech. He worked at
the Tech Museum where he prepared dioramas depicting Indian and other
early life on the South Plains. He worked in newspaper
advertising preparing and illustrating ads, He operated
Moore Advertising Agency producing ads and illustrations for national
magazines. He worked at Fort Hood, TX for 25 years as chief
Illustrator for the Training Aids Center. He retired in 1982 and
since that time has devoted full time to painting, teaching workshop and
classes, doing demonstrations for art groups, and traveling around the
country looking for places to paint.
There
always seems to be something new to learn in this process called
painting. To inspire and prod that process along Al has attended
numerous workshops given by nationally acclaimed artists. Some of
these include: Albert Handell- oil and pastels, John Carter -
watercolor, nine Cowboy of America artists on a ranch in Montana -
oils, and Bob Pummel CAA workshop - oils. About two times yearly
since about 1985 Al has painted with Bob Wygant who has been an
important factor in inspiring him to paint in acrylics and strive for a
higher level of professionalism in his art.
Al's
paintings have numerous awards and prizes in shows. He has had a
number of one man shows and his work can be found in private and
corporate collections in the U. S. and abroad.
